EMILY MALDEN
I’m a filmmaker based in Oxford and was delighted to be asked by James Ort to create a film to document the Inspired By Knepp project, and get the chance to visit the Knepp Estate. I have always had a deep appreciation of the natural world, and a growing fascination with the interconnectivity of it and the place of humans within its ecosystem. I know how enriching nature can be to our individual lives, and Knepp is such a wonderful example of hope, at a time when it sometimes feels impossible to be hopeful.
As a filmmaker, I always appreciate getting to work in wild spaces, but I also fundamentally love telling human stories. And I think stories that resonate with people on a human level, can be especially powerful in promoting change. It was wonderful to witness how all the artists responded to the ideas and impact of rewilding at Knepp on our first visit there. I hope that in the Inspired By Knepp documentary, I have captured some of that enthusiasm, excitement and optimism that being at Knepp gave us all, and that it might inspire others to fight for change in the way we are living on this planet.
