As I become more aware of changes and threats imposed on the natural world, I increasingly feel the need to
record it, to consider it always. Through our project at Knepp Estate, I have learnt so much about our
landscape, its processes and eco-systems. However, when I paint, I try to put this knowledge aside, I work as
dispassionately and economically as possible, distilling the moment into an objective representation. I hope
that by leaving out my own narrative or agenda, the intrinsic beauty of the landscape comes across. Knepp
Estate feels similarly un-curated; there's an element of letting go and trusting that nature is enough, what
nature has presented is adequate to create a beautiful and harmonious landscape.
