James came up with the idea of the ‘Inspired By Knepp’ exhibition, having read Isabella Tree’s book Wilding.Reading the book was a call to arms. He hopes the exhibition will raise Knepp’s profile, and reconnect visitors to the landscape and its wild inhabitants.

Animals are James’ primary subject matter which is the result of a lifelong fascination with wildlife.
Using his understanding of anatomy and form, he pushes clay and wire to their limits.

James manages the Phoenix Studio, a private art teaching studio set in rural Oxfordshire. It was in this creative
environment that he discovered the joy of sculpture.

He was heavily influenced by his Grandfather, Brian Price Thomas, who illustrated a number of the Ladybird Children Books.
James also has a love & natural aptitude for teaching. He guides adults and children in how to make both
ceramic and wire animal sculptures in the UK and abroad.
