NOSEY MUNGO
Helen Burgess, the creator behind Nosey Mungo, is a self-taught ceramic artist with an insatiable curiosity for nature.
She works part time at the Sussex Wildlife Trust and spends the rest of the week in her studio in Cuckfield, creating animals
from clay. With a background in geography and ecology, she is particularly interested in the connection between species
and the environment they live in.
“I grew up in Sussex and spent a lot of my time outside exploring the countryside. The fascination with the natural world started
at an early age and I’ve always enjoyed just sitting and observing wildlife. I’ve known about the Knepp Estate for many years
and find the whole concept of rewilding really exciting. During our time here last year I was in my element; quietly watching
each animal go about its business and in turn creating opportunities for other wildlife to thrive, or even survive. Many of my
pieces created for the exhibition celebrate this connection between species.”
